Year 6 had an important lesson around online safety. We looked at apps and their age-ratings before exploring how hiding behind the anonymity of a screen can lead to unkind comments and bullying. The most eye-opening part of the session was seeing the effect a group chat can have on one individual and even how an emoji can have a huge impact on another person. We did, of course, discuss how great it is to be able to talk with friends and share photos etc but in most cases we decided this was best done either 1:1 or in a small group of close friends where the admin settings are tightly controlled.
