6SC World Book Day

This week we’ve been all about Reading!  With World Book Day on Thursday, we decided to theme our entire week around the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’.  The children have loved creating their own version of the stories when their chairs decided to quit.  They’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting into character as their chairs and sending some rather stroppy letters of their own.  On World Book Day, the number of children who chose the book to share with the younger children was incredible and shows just how much they’ve enjoyed the story.  The day overall was such fun and the children were so enthusiastic about the various activities we did.  The morning stared with a whole school assembly by ‘granny’ (aka Mr Colley 😂) where he shared the exciting news of our new library opening.  We then took part in a live lesson with hundreds of other schools across the UK.  Of course, we fit in our usual Reading session where we read a magical poem about some very interesting creations before spending the afternoon researching some of our favourite authors in preparation for our biography writing later this term.  The highlight of the day was our paired visit with Year 2 to our brand-new library.  The children’s faces were phenomenal and they cannot wait to go back again.  All in all, a very busy day that excited the children about Reading once again.  I hope this will now continue throughout the year – after all, that’s what World Book Day is all about!
