French
Our Intent
At Simpson’s Lane Academy, our Key Stage 2 pupils are taught to develop an interest in learning French in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We strive to stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity of language and develop their awareness of cultural differences. We provide opportunities to embed the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking necessary to enable pupils to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundation for future language teaching.
Our MFL curriculum is designed to progressively enhance children’s skills in French through weekly sessions led by a specialist French teacher. Pupils acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary organised around topics. Pupils are encouraged and supported to develop their speaking and listening skills through conversational work, singing activities and games. As confidence and skill grows, pupils record their work through pictures, captions and sentences. Where possible, we endeavour to expose pupils to use the language on a day to day basis whether it be for greetings, numbers or instructions.
